In short
The best AI search visibility agency in Kigali is the one that measures where you stand in Google, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity first, is honest that nobody can guarantee a ranking or a mention, fixes your website and your facts across the web, and reports in plain English every month. Use the eight-point checklist on this page to compare any agency, including Vatam.

What is an AI search visibility agency?
An AI search visibility agency helps a business become the answer when someone asks Google, ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity who to choose. Classic SEO tries to put your page in a list of links. AI search visibility goes one step further: it aims to get your business named, described correctly and linked as a source inside the written answer.
In Kigali this matters for hotels, restaurants, real estate companies, professional services and any business that is chosen after a search. If you want the background, read our explainer on SEO vs AEO vs GEO.
Why can no honest agency promise to be “the best”?
“Best” is a claim every agency makes about itself, and no independent ranking of Kigali agencies exists. So instead of asking who is best, ask who can prove the work and be honest about its limits. This page gives you eight tests you can apply to any agency, including us.
The eight-point checklist for choosing an agency in Kigali
| Test | What good looks like | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Baseline first | Measures where you appear today across Google, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity before proposing work | Starts publishing before measuring anything |
| 2. Honest limits | Says plainly that no one controls Google or AI assistants | Promises a number one ranking or a guaranteed AI mention |
| 3. Whole-business scope | Covers your website, Google Business Profile, directory facts, content and mentions | Sells only blog posts or only backlinks |
| 4. Local and multilingual | Understands Kigali buyers and English, French, Kiswahili and Kinyarwanda search | Applies a generic overseas playbook |
| 5. Technical competence | Checks crawl access, speed, schema and AI crawler rules | Never opens your robots.txt or sitemap |
| 6. Proof you can check | Shows case studies with dates, tools and what is unfinished | Only unnamed “success stories” |
| 7. Ownership and access | You own the accounts and see the same data the agency sees | Agency holds your accounts |
| 8. Clear scope and price | Written deliverables, reporting and exclusions | Vague retainers with long lock-ins |
Our guide to choosing an SEO agency in East Africa expands each point into a question you can ask on a call.
What should the first 90 days look like?
- Weeks 1 to 2: baseline. A fixed set of buyer questions is tested in each assistant and in Google. You see who is named, how you are described and which pages are cited.
- Weeks 2 to 5: foundations. Crawl and indexation fixes, a correct robots.txt and sitemap, titles and descriptions, schema, and a single set of business facts used everywhere.
- Weeks 4 to 8: answers. Answer-first service pages and FAQs written around the questions buyers really ask, in the languages you sell in.
- Weeks 6 to 12: signals. Google Business Profile, reviews and a small number of relevant, earned mentions on sites that AI assistants and Google already trust.
- Week 12: re-test. The same questions are asked again, and you receive a plain-English report on what changed and what is next.
How much does an AI search visibility agency cost in Kigali?
Prices vary widely, so compare what is included and not only the headline number. For reference, here is Vatam’s published pricing, in US dollars, with Rwandan franc quotes available on request:
| Option | Price | What is included |
|---|---|---|
| Free AI Visibility Audit | Free | Instant scan with a score out of 100, a manual check of ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and a plain-English report within one working day |
| Foundation: Essentials | $390 one-time | Up to 10 pages, crawl and indexation fixes, titles and descriptions, schema, sitemap, robots.txt and llms.txt, Google Business Profile and 5 directory listings aligned; about 2 weeks |
| Foundation: Standard | $850 one-time | Up to 30 pages, an internal linking plan, 5 answer-first pages, entity clean-up across up to 15 profiles, review set-up and one extra language; about 3 to 4 weeks |
| Foundation: Plus | $1,590 one-time | Up to 80 pages or several locations, 10 answer-first pages, up to two extra languages and migration support; about 5 to 6 weeks |
| Retainer: Starter | $290 per month | 2 answer-first articles or pages, a monthly report on a 10-prompt panel, a Search Console summary and a monthly call |
| Retainer: Growth | $650 per month | 4 answer-first articles or pages, a 25-prompt panel across five AI engines with 2 competitors compared, and one digital PR round a month |
| Retainer: Scale | $1,250 per month | 8 answer-first articles or pages, a 50-prompt panel with 4 competitors compared, two PR rounds a month and a conversion landing page |
Our pricing page has the full detail. Project work is paid 50% to begin and 50% on handover. Retainers are invoiced monthly in advance with a three-month minimum and then 30 days’ notice. Any third-party cost, such as a publisher fee or plugin licence, is agreed before we spend it.
Which option fits which business?
- One location and a small site: start with the free audit, then an Essentials build.
- Several services, or a second language: a Standard build, because the answer-first pages and entity clean-up are where most gains come from.
- A larger site, a shop or several branches: Plus.
- Already have a sound site and want steady growth: a retainer, because AI visibility changes month to month and needs repeat measurement.
What will an agency need from you?
Good work depends on a few things only you can supply. Have these ready and the first weeks move quickly:
- Access to your website admin, Google Search Console and Google Business Profile, with you remaining the owner.
- Your exact business facts: trading name, address, phone, opening hours, services, prices or ranges, languages, founders.
- Your three to five most valuable services and the customers you most want more of.
- Examples of past work you may name, with permission, and any genuine reviews.
- The questions customers ask on the phone and on WhatsApp. They are the best prompts to test.
- One person who can approve pages quickly.
Agency, freelancer or in-house hire?
| Agency | Freelancer | In-house | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Several skills at once: technical, content, listings, measurement | One clear task, such as articles or a technical audit | A large business with a steady flow of work |
| Watch out for | Long lock-ins and vague scope | One person’s availability and range | Cost, training and keeping up with fast-changing tools |
| Ask for | Written scope, reporting, account ownership | Samples and references | Clear goals and tool budget |
How should you read the first report?
- Start with the baseline. It is a snapshot of who is named for your key questions today. Do not judge it as good or bad. Judge the change over the following months.
- Look for wrong facts. An assistant that gets your address, services or prices wrong is a fixable source problem.
- Look at who is cited. The pages and sites that assistants link are the places to be accurate and, where relevant, mentioned.
- Ignore single answers. Answers vary by wording, day and user. Trends across a fixed set of questions matter.
- Check the next actions. A useful report ends with a short, ranked list of what happens next.
Common mistakes when hiring
- Choosing the cheapest quote without comparing scope.
- Paying for a guaranteed ranking or a guaranteed AI mention.
- Letting an agency own your domain, profile or analytics.
- Accepting a retainer with no measurement method.
- Publishing many weak articles instead of fewer strong ones. Google warns that producing many pages without adding value may break its spam policy on scaled content abuse.
What can you do yourself this week, for free?
- Open
yourdomain.com/robots.txtand check that nothing blocks search crawlers you want. - Search your business name in Google and in ChatGPT and note anything wrong.
- Complete your Google Business Profile: categories, hours, services, photos, replies to reviews.
- Write one sheet with your exact business facts and make every listing match it.
- Write ten questions a buyer would ask and test each in two assistants.
- Run the free audit to see your score and top fixes.
How does Vatam approach it?
Vatam is a founder-led agency based in Kigali, serving Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. We start with a free AI visibility audit: an instant scan of your site, then a hand check of what ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity say about you, with the report emailed within one working day. There is no obligation.
We work from the same checklist we publish above. Our LAGE Lightings case study shows a brand that ChatGPT listed seventh in July 2026 and that ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude all named first by October, together with Google impressions and sessions over the same period, and what was still unfinished. Our Lens & Co case study records three AI engines naming the business in October 2026, up from none. These are the results of two specific clients, not a promise for yours.
When are we probably not the right fit?
- You want a guaranteed ranking or a guaranteed AI mention.
- You do not yet have a website or a clear offer. Fix that first.
- You need a large agency team on site in Kigali every week. We work remotely with clients across East Africa.
What does it cost?
Prices are on our pricing page: the audit is free, one-time Foundation builds start from $390 and monthly retainers from $290. Everything is agreed in writing before work starts.
Which services are involved?
- Generative engine optimization to get named by AI assistants.
- Answer engine optimization for featured snippets and direct answers.
- AI visibility tracking and reporting every month.
- Local and multilingual SEO for Kigali and the region.
What does the data say about why this matters?
- Clicks fall when an AI summary appears. In a study of 900 U.S. adults, Pew Research Center found people clicked a traditional search result in 8% of visits that showed a Google AI summary, against 15% of visits without one, and clicked a link inside the summary in 1% of visits (Pew Research Center (July 2025)). It is U.S. data from March 2025, so treat it as a direction, not a Rwandan number. The lesson is that being named inside the answer is worth more every year.
- Rwandan buyers are online and on mobile. DataReportal counts 5.01 million internet users in Rwanda (34.2% of the population) in October 2025 and 13.0 million mobile connections at the end of 2025 (DataReportal: Digital 2026 Rwanda).
- Google says there is no secret switch. Its documentation states there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode and no special optimizations necessary; pages need to be indexed and eligible to show a snippet (Google Search Central: AI features and your website). So be sceptical of an agency selling a hidden AI Overview trick. The work is strong fundamentals, done well and measured.

Frequently asked questions
What does an AI search visibility agency do?
It helps your business get found and named when people ask Google, ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity for recommendations. The work covers technical fixes, clear page content, consistent business facts across the web, trusted mentions and monthly measurement.
Can an agency guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my business?
No. Nobody controls what an AI assistant says. An honest agency guarantees a measured baseline, clear work and honest reporting, not a specific mention or position.
How is this different from normal SEO?
SEO aims to rank your pages in a list of links. AI search visibility also aims to make you the business an assistant names and cites in a written answer. The two overlap heavily, since assistants draw on the same web that SEO builds.
How long does it take to see results?
Expect early movement in a few months and stronger results over longer periods, though timing depends on your site, competition and how much needs fixing. A good agency shows interim signals such as new impressions in Search Console and changes in AI answers.
How much does it cost in Kigali?
Our free audit costs nothing, one-time Foundation builds start from $390 and monthly retainers from $290, all listed on our pricing page. Compare any agency on a written scope, not a headline price.
