How to Get Your Kigali Hotel Recommended by ChatGPT

In short

To improve the chance that ChatGPT recommends your Kigali hotel: let OpenAI's search crawler read your site, publish a clear page for each thing guests ask about (rooms, rates, location, airport transfers, meeting rooms), keep your name, address and facts identical on every listing, collect genuine reviews, and test the questions guests ask every month. No hotel can buy or guarantee a recommendation.

Updated October 2026.

Why this matters for a Kigali hotel

Rwanda’s tourism sector generated USD 647 million in revenue from 1.36 million visitors in 2024, and its meetings and conference sector brought in USD 84.8 million from 115 events and more than 52,000 delegates, according to the Rwanda Development Board 2024 annual report highlights. Many of those visitors, and the planners who book for them, decide before they land, and more and more of them ask an assistant. If the assistant cannot find clear facts about your hotel, it cannot recommend it.

What does ChatGPT need from your hotel?

  1. Access. OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot surfaces sites in ChatGPT search and that sites that opt out will not appear in ChatGPT search answers (OpenAI: overview of its crawlers). Check your robots.txt.
  2. Clear facts. Name, exact address, neighbourhood, distance to the airport and convention centre, room types, check-in times, languages spoken.
  3. Answers to guest questions. Each common question deserves its own clear section or page.
  4. Consistency. The same details on your site, Google Business Profile and booking platforms.
  5. Social proof. Genuine, recent reviews, and responses to them.

Add structured data, and keep it honest

Markup tells machines what the page contains. Use the schema.org Hotel type, or a more specific lodging type, with name, address, phone, check-in and check-out times and amenities, and make sure it matches the visible page. Google’s Google: LocalBusiness structured data guidance lists name and address as required and phone, opening hours, geo coordinates and price range as recommended. Validate with the Rich Results Test. See our schema markup guide.

Make Google Business Profile do its share

A complete profile with correct categories, hours, photos and replies to reviews gives assistants and Google a consistent summary of your hotel. Follow our Google Business Profile checklist and Google’s own advice on Google Business Profile help: improve your local ranking.

Write for several languages

Guests arrive from many countries. Provide English as a minimum and French where relevant. See multilingual SEO for Rwanda, and Google’s guidance on Google: localized versions of your pages.

How to test whether ChatGPT recommends you

  • Write 15 to 20 real guest questions, such as “Which hotels in Kigali are close to the convention centre?”
  • Ask each one in a fresh chat, twice.
  • Record whether you are named, whether your site is cited and whether the facts are correct.
  • Repeat monthly. See our full method.

What you cannot control

You cannot choose what ChatGPT writes, and it can change between sessions and updates. You can control whether your information is accessible, clear and consistent. That is the whole job.

What do guests and event planners actually ask?

Write down the questions your own guests ask, then group them. These example prompts show the range; many resemble the prompt panels we build for hospitality clients on our hospitality and tourism page:

Guest typeExample questions
Leisure traveller“Boutique hotel in Kigali with airport transfers and a quiet garden”, “Where to stay in Kigali for a first visit?”
Business traveller“Hotel near Kigali Convention Centre with fast wifi and a business desk”
Event planner“Hotels in Kigali with a meeting room for 40 people”, “Group rates for a three-day conference in Kigali”
Family“Family-friendly hotel in Kigali with a pool and interconnecting rooms”
Budget-conscious“Clean, safe hotel in Kigali under [budget] per night”

A hotel fact sheet worth writing down

FactWrite it like this
RoomsNumber of rooms and each room type, with size, beds and view
Rates“From [amount] per night”, currency, what is included, taxes, the date checked
LocationNeighbourhood, travel time by car to the airport and the convention centre
ArrivalCheck-in and check-out times, airport transfer price and how to book
FacilitiesPool, gym, restaurant, parking, wifi, accessibility, with hours
MeetingsRoom names, capacities by layout, equipment, catering, sample rates
PoliciesCancellation, deposits, children, pets, payment methods
ContactReservations email, phone and WhatsApp, with response times

How should you publish rates?

  • Show a “from” price and say what it includes, so the page can be quoted accurately.
  • Date the information and update it when rates change.
  • Show the currency clearly, and whether taxes and service charges are included.
  • Check your agreements with booking platforms before you publish rates that differ from theirs.
  • Give a clear, direct way to book or enquire, such as a form, email or WhatsApp.

How do you ask for reviews the right way?

Genuine reviews are a strong trust signal. Google’s Google Maps user-contributed content policy prohibits fake engagement, offering incentives such as discounts or free services in exchange for reviews, and selectively soliciting positive reviews. It allows you to encourage genuine reviews without incentives or attempts to influence the rating or content. So ask every guest, make it easy with a link or QR code, and reply to every review, positive or negative.

Photos and descriptions

  • Describe each room in text. Do not rely on images alone, because machines read text.
  • Give images useful file names and alt text, such as “Deluxe room with garden view at Example Stay, Kigali”.
  • Keep photos current; remove images of facilities that no longer exist.

Common mistakes Kigali hotels make

  • Three different phone numbers across the website, Google and booking sites.
  • Rooms and rates shown only as images or in a PDF.
  • Meeting rooms missing from the website, so event planners never find them.
  • No reply to reviews.
  • A robots.txt that blocks crawlers you want.
  • English only, with no French page for guests who need it.

What would this cost for a hotel?

A typical starting point is a Standard Foundation build at $850 (up to 30 pages, five answer-first pages, entity clean-up across up to 15 profiles and one extra language) with a Starter retainer at $290 a month to keep testing and publishing. If your website is already sound, a Google Business Profile and directory clean-up ($180) and a review request system ($160) are single items. Our pricing page has the full list.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay ChatGPT to recommend my hotel?

No guaranteed arrangement exists, and anyone who sells one is promising something they do not control. Visibility comes from clear, consistent, trusted information about your hotel.

What do guests ask ChatGPT about Kigali hotels?

Typical questions are about the best hotel for a business trip, near the convention centre, with a pool, with airport transfers, for families, or within a budget. Write down the questions your own guests ask and test those.

Does my hotel need its own website if I am on Booking sites?

Yes. Your site is the one place you control. Third-party platforms are among the sources assistants can draw from, so keep those profiles accurate too, but your own site should hold the complete, current facts.

Should I block AI crawlers?

If you want to be recommended, do not block OAI-SearchBot, which OpenAI says is used to surface sites in ChatGPT search. Whether to allow GPTBot, used for training, is a separate decision.

How often should I test?

Once a month with the same questions, asked twice each in a fresh chat. Record the answers and look at the trend.
